Default Covered Patio Cage/Aviary Ideas

Hi Everyone,

I would like my husband to build me a cage/aviary that can be used in our backyard under our covered partio. Something roughly 5'h x 4'w x 4'd. We spend a fair amount of time outside and would like Slater to be with me. I could buy something which is an option but I thought if I wanted something more unique I'd have to have my husband build something.

I'd like to see pictures so I can get design ideas and what materials would be safe to use.

Thanks very much!

I was considering one as well. I was looking into the A&E outdoor aviaries.
I know a few have built others, so hopefully they will respond.

Here are a couple of photos of the inside/outside area for our smaller birds- it opens into the lounge room, and the enclosed pool room, as well as having mesh to the outdoor area where we like to sit, this way they can see us in our main living areas, but is designed so that birds have no chance of escaping outdoors... I am planning a larger version for Polly as an outdoor play area in the near future. (note the inside is lined with corrogated iron at the top- they don't have any access to the blue sheets

Thanks My hubby doesn't like the birds being in cages in the house, this was our compromise- the sliding doors mean we can sit in the lounge and open the aviary door to anyone who wants to come inside (the kids cockatiels, and the sun and nanday conures race straight inside for attention, but the budgies are all content to stay put in their own place...) The only difficulty then is rounding them all back up and managing to shut the door LOL.

When I build Polly's it will just be a day cage, probably 3.6 meters x 1 meter wide and 2.4 meters high... it will open out from the pool room so that she doesn't go outside of an enclosed area. It will have areas open to the weather, as well as covered area to escape the wind/rain. (Not that it ever gets very cold here in Australia ) I will also put in a spray system for showers on hot days (more of an issue here). The plan is to include lots of foraging opportunities to keep her occupied, lots of branches and fresh leaves to destroy...
