Hi guys
Well a friend of mine wants to set up a breeding pair of greys, now he has a female already and she is 3 yrs old, she plucks her feathers, I breed birds but never used a bird that has this problem as I have heard they don't make good parents, my question is has any one here ever used a bird that feather plucks to breed and if so how are they as parents |

It may depend on the cause of plucking. If it's behavioral and the bird is stressed perhaps it won't be a good parent. If it's medical I'd worry about it being too sick. That said I have no experience with breeding birds but if I did breed I don't think there is enough information about plucking and it's causes to knowingly breed a plucker in case the behavioral issues can be passed on genetically, i.e. stressed parents who pluck make stressed babies who later pluck.
