Hello, I joined this forum because I have been planning on adding a grey to our family. I have been doing alot of reading up. I raise lovebirds and have fed many babies. I am currently hand-feeding a Quaker.
I have been offered a baby Grey, by a breeder who is well known in my area. I have even talked to a couple of vets who know him well, and all had good things to say about him! He(the breeder) is having surgery next week and will be unable to care for the baby, as he will be in the hospital. The surgery is something unexpected. He is diabetic and is having to have some of his toes, possibly foot, amputated! He was just given the news this morning at his dr. visit! I had contacted him awhile back to see if he had greys available. At the time the baby had just hatched and was one day old! Right now the baby is 3 1/2 weeks old. I have gone to visit the baby. Was even able to give it a feeding. It looks very healthy and moves around great. His cries for food were even healthy sounding! My questions are...what should I expect at this age? I know this is young, and if the situation were different I would wait awhile till it was a few weeks older. Is feeding a Grey a whole lot different then feeding a Quaker? Anything special about thier baby diet? If its fed every four hours, (at the right temperature of couse), kept warm, and had plenty of attention & love, like any other parrot I should be good....right? Any input, opinions, suggestions..etc. would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. |
