Ok, the breeder I am getting my baby from says she doesn't like to DNA because it hurts the bird
![]() So, is there any other way with the greys that you can guess if they are male or female? I am automatically coming up with boy names, thinking my parrot will be a boy, but what if he is really a she? ![]() Are there any physical or personality traits they may have? |

DNA testing can be made directly from the shell of the egg. If she kept that, it would be one way of doing it.
I got Max DNA'ed when I took him for a well check at the vet. Since they had to draw blood, the got extra for the test. Other then that, you can't tell just by looking at them. |

Mine were sexed when I was at the vet and had their nails clipped. The nails were too long and a drop of blood was the result from each. One drop of blood from each was stained onto a sheet that was sent to the lab and back came the sex of each a couple of weeks later.
This is DNA sexing and I don't think this hurts the bird at all. It is no where near as invasive as the surgical sexing that is used, even today, and it is 100 percent accurate which is not the case with surgical sexing. David |

I agree with David. When you take your bird in for a well check I would ask for a DNA test. Sounds lie the breeder is ill informed or just doesn't want to bother. I always DNA'd my babies for future owners.

I've also noticed that females are generally smaller, and their heads are much more slender than males. Out of about the 10 Greys I know, I've been able to guess the sex correctly on each of them. Probably luck!

My grey is a male, and he generally gets along better with females. He doesn't like male friends much, and lets my mother and girl friends touch him. Has anyone else had a case like this? A male bird being attracted to female people.
