Polynesia is settling in very well. (Named after the african grey in Dr Doolittle)
She is very curious about all things, and absolutely crazy about getting her head scratched and beak rubbed! I haven't heard any real words from her yet, but she's trying, making little scratchy pre-words, and adding her 2 cents worth when I sing the "miss Polly" song to her. She uses lots of two-sylabol sounds when she answers me, and says something which may be an attempt at hello at times when I go over to her. Otherwise we usually only here her squeaky toy impersonation, or clucking noise. She has added a water drip to her range as well. She is much more content to play by herself than Merlin ever was, happy to be out and on top of the cage as long as you are in the room. she really only flies off the cage if I walk out of view (she's already worked out that the sound of her flying will get me back to investigate ) When she is with me however, she is very adamant about getting her scratches, and grabs at my fingers every time I stop Evidently 1 hnad should be scratching while the other gently rubs her beak, and she's a happy girl! The only other time she wants to fly is when I pick her up to put her back in the cage- then we play "chase the birdie" to get her back in, though I'm working on teaching her that she will always get more scratches for going back in.... and in case I haven't mentioned it she LOVES scratches! Anyway... here are some photos, in case you haven't guessed I'm completely smitten with this little girl Jo ![]() ![]() |

Polly said her first real word to me on the weekend!!
I had a house full of people celebrating my daughter's birthday, and poor Polly was feeling rather ignored, so early Saturday evening, in front of 2 of my friends and at least 1/2 dozen kids Polly piped up with a very loud, and very clear "hello". So proud! Last night she was sitting on top of her cage and definately said something (short phrase) but it wasn't clear enough to interpret. Waiting to see what that will be. So exciting watching this develop! |

U think your kids will be competing for attention! Obviously Miss Polly doesn't like when the world doesn't revolve aroudn her! It's awesome that she said her fird word. How old is she now?

She's 18 weeks old now.
I was told she was talking when I got her from the breeder, but it's taken her a week of being home with us to start using any words. I love the way she answers when I talk to her, not in real words yet, but she's starting to try and work out how to say something... I predict the "scratch" will be one of the next things I hear! |

Thanks, she is beautiful... caught my hubby saying "Hello, my name's Polly" last night- absolute crack-up as he complains about my birds! (Then walked in to find her sitting on his knee... followed by him trying to teach me how to give her a scratch!!)

Polly has decided to bark like a dog! It's one of her favourite sounds at the moment, and she knows she gets a resonse from us (usually us telling her to "be a good dog") so now we are greated by a barking bird, and leave each morning with both my husband and I telling the kids to have a good day at school, and the bird to be a good dog.... must be going crazy!
