I'm thinking of ordering a new batch as well. The birds love them! Let me know how it goes!

Elle:

Today (Tuesday) I received the following email from Junglegold on the shipment of my order of palm nuts.

"Dear David:

Your order will be dispatched on January 4th. This will be the first courier service after the Christmas festivities. We are doing this to prevent your parcel being held in transit at this time of the year.
Regards,
John Hambelton"

Looks as if they pay attention to what might cause delay (and decay) in the shipment of a perishable item.

More later.

David

Elle:

Here is the latest report from Junlglegold. It is not good.

"David,

The last two orders we sent to the USA before Christmas were held and delayed by US Customs. The palm nuts were finally delivered but had gone rotten. We are not shipping palm nuts to the USA until US Customs has clarified why the nuts were held up. This has not happened before. You can still order Palm Nut Fruit Extract as this does not deteriorate during shipping. We are cancellling and refunding your order. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
Regards, John Hambleton"

You may have an entirely different experience having palm nuts shipped from the UK into Canada. I would like to know the outcome if you place an order.

Very kindly, David

I find that they are very considerate in regards to the delays and customs. I hope it gets clarified soon. Let me know if you end up re-ordering.

Elle:

The shipment of palm nuts has arrived from UK. I picked them up at UPS here at 10:00 am this morning. They were shipped on 01/06/10 for a transit of eight days. Unfortunately, two days were due to the fact that they were shipped as a signature required parcel and my wife and I are not home during the day to sign for the shipment.

Nuts look good. No sign of decay or yeast. I put the box in the freezer immediately but gave one nut to each of our two wild caught greys which have totally ignored them and I thought they would jump out of their feathers trying to get at a favorite food for greys in Africa. If I can get the parrots to start stripping husks, I'll order another kilo while it is cold.

You may want to give it a try. I don't know how Canadian customs will be. Also, I told Junglegold that I, not they, were responsible if the shipment was held up and the nuts spoiled.

Questions happily answered from all.

Very kindly, David

Elle, I wish I lived closer to you because I would happily split a five kilogram order. Unfortunately, I am in the US, in Georgia, and there would be significant added shipping time from you to me plus the US/Canadian border complete with more time in US Customs. I am not sure the nuts would survive the added time.

Our big male finally took to demolishing his first nut, yesterday. The hen has not yet touched hers which starts to make me wonder about her "wild caught" band. How did you get your greys to start peeling their nuts? Is there any special trick I might use other than just waiting?

Hope all's well at your end. Very kindly, David

I know. I wish you were closer as well Or at least in the same country! It would cost be £40.00 just for shipping a 5 kg order.

Rammie is a big thief. All I have to do with him is put something on the counter and say "No!", turn around, count to 5 and look again and he's devouring whatever I said "No!" to.

Try different times of the days. Max will only eat them as a snack in the evening. He won't touch them if I leave it in his treat bowl.
