Default New Feathers

Well it seems to be that time of the year, and my little girl is going through her first big molt. She's got a ton of new feather coming in. I just want to ask this: My Conure loves when my wife helps pick the sheaths off of her, she will literally sit for an hour with her and pick the new feathers.

Our CAG on the other hand seems to be hyper sensitive to this, and will not let me help break the sheaths off. I am trying to be very gentle, and start with the tip of feather (farthest away from the skin) but she just gets really grumpy. Are Greys generally like this?

Each bird is an individual, whether conure or grey. Some birds can tolerate the preening help, others can't. To some it is extremely painful or irratating. Make sure you give her plenty of baths or mistings to help the molt along.

She's getting a few baths a week. Found out it has to be in the kitchen sink though. The bath tub freaked her out. She loves taking baths though.

Sydney is more tolerant to me preenin the feathers then Emma. Emma has ONE spot she will let me do and its because of her twisted neck, that she cant reach it.
Sydney will actually rub his head on my arm to get me to help out where he cant reach.

I suppose I just found it odd because every other bird I've known has loved to be preened that way. Since it bothers her, I don't try to do it, it's just hard not too when they're all over.
