Well my fiance has been BUGGING me for an Amazon for I don't even know how long now and I have tried every excuse to say no but finally I caved and looked for some on craigslist thinking if it was meant to be it was meant to be and I'd find one. Of course I did, of course it's one of the hot three (of course his favorites).
She's (at least it's a female!) a Yellow Naped (the woman with the red lored never got back to me after contacting me) and she's between 6-12 years old (no band so who knows). She talks and is super friendly and only about 4 hours from us. We're going to go get her next weekend. She comes with her cage and is only 200$. Of course there is a down side , the woman rehoming her has to rehome all of her birds due to her husband's work changing and them having to be gone for long periods of time and all summers. So she has other birds that need homes. One is a 2 year old male CAG who has a huge vocabulary already and enjoys talking back and forth with the Yellow Nape. They have full on conversations and get along very well. How could I possibly split them up you ask? I can't. So we're getting them both! My fiance was not as pleased as I am but I told him the grey is his toll for me finding him a zon. Gosh I have wanted a male Congo forever, all of my 'males' turn out to be girlies.Oh I am so happy. 2 parrots, 2 cages, toys, food, etc for 600$ is a pretty good deal I think. Neither seem to have too much behavioral issues, the CAG is a little cage bound due to not being handled much because of their working so much and the zon has two downy spots on top of her wings due to hormones but those are easily remedied, they both love people and will go to anyone and eat amazingly well and are healthy. Yay! Wish me luck. And yay! Time to renovate the house for quarantine!

I know, pictures will be forthcoming like crazy, we are both so excited. How I'm going to wait a week (it's always the last week that is the killer) I have no idea. I hope Zooo is not too upset but from what I remember she was really good with the other birds at the rescue she was at and the fact that these two are already friends makes me feel a lot better about the whole flock dynamic already. Especially with a zon which I've always found a little intimidating.
As I'm sure so many of you who look at rescue or rehome birds know it is really hard to find any without issues so I was pretty amazed at these two, they really have had a great home and stable, loving family and are really well adjusted. I think the fact that I asked if we could take both was a load off the family's mind too, I'd hate to have to separate two that got on so well and to have to rehome and try to find families for all of your birds because your life is about to change so drastically must be stressful enough. These two will be loved to death. And I finally get a boy (with my luck he'll turn into a girl overnight though). I have wanted a grey to name Gandalf since I was 7. ![]()

![]() ![]() They were both a little more messed up than we were told but nothing a good diet and daily showering won't fix. They came from a smoking house with candles EVERYWHERE, grrr. Gribbit is missing a nail, Gandalf is underweight and his beak is a little longer than it should be. The minute I put him into his new larger cage he rubbed his beak on everything and set to work eating, he's barely stopped. His feathers were a mess, I thought he might be barbering but they just needed a mist and a preen, he is looking much better now. I think all they got at their old place was apples, grapes and fruity pellets. Ugh. They had no problem switching over to what we feed here though which is a relief. Gribbit has belted out some words with her funny YNA voice and she giggles like an anime character, Gandalf has roared at me like a properly displaced grey. He is steppig up when I need to move him though mostly I'm leaving him alone to explore and Gribbit is dowel trained so getting her to step up onto a hand won't be too hard, she did try to test me (or taste me) but when I called her bluff she stepped up just fine onto my hand. They are still settling in but we love them to pieces already!

I grew up with a Double Yellow Headed Amazon and he is a great bird. His name is Tacky because when we got him he would scream profanities at us. :( With a little attention he became a great bird though.
He is the only parrot I have ever "known" until I just recently got my TAG. She is soooooooooo mellow compared to him. He is full of piss and vinegar, but we love him He is quite the escape artist too, keeps you on your toes!Congrats on your new additions, I hope you have many wonderful years together. |
